OBITUARY

Barrett Gates Greenlee, 79, of Scenery Hill, formerly of Bentleyville, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, Monday, January 8, 2018, at Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh, following a brief illness.

He was born on April 14, 1938, in Washington, Pa., son of the late John Bentley Greenlee and Mary Gates Greenlee.

Mr. Greenlee was a graduate of Bentleyville High School, Class of 1956, Allegheny College, where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, and The Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. For the past 57 years, he proudly served the local communities as a funeral director, and, with his father, John B. Greenlee, and his brother, Gordon B. Greenlee, owned funeral homes located in Beallsville, Bentleyville, and Fredericktown. He was honored by organizations within the communities he served on numerous occasions over the years, including the former Deemston Grange, which named him and his brother Men of the Year, the Bentworth community, which asked him and his wife to serve as Grand Marshalls of the Bentleyville Halloween Parade, and the Friends of the Bentleyville Library, which presented its 2014 Citizens of the Year Award to him and his wife.

He served in the United States Air Force as a medic, during the Vietnam War.

He was a 44 year, active member of the Bentleyville Lions Club, which honored him with its Melvin Jones Fellowship; the Bentleyville American Legion Post No. 165; the Bentleyville Historical Society; the Croatian Fraternal Union of America; the National Funeral Directors Association; the Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association, which recognized him as a 50 year member for his dedication to funeral service; the Southwestern Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association; he was a 50 year member of Beallsville Lodge No. 237 F. & A.M.; a member of A.A.S.R. of Valley of Pittsburgh; a member of Syria Shrine; a member of Washington – Greene Caravan No. 2; a member of Tall Cedars of Lebanon; and Nemacolin Country Club.

Mr. Greenlee was a lifetime member of the Bentleyville United Methodist Church and served on its Pastoral Relations Committee.

He loved his profession, which allowed him to help people during very difficult times in their lives, the communities in which he was born and raised, and most of all, he loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sara Perri Greenlee; two daughters, Paige A. Greenlee, of Tampa, Fl. and Robyn Bracco, of Ben Avon, Pa.; a sister, Mary Jane Greenlee Sertik (Thomas) of McMurray, Pa.; three grandchildren, Noah, Mary, and Felicity Bracco; three nephews, John B. Greenlee of Fredericktown, Pa., Darren Sertik of Boulder, Co., and Chad Barrett Sertik of McMurray, Pa; and his mother in law, Jessie Perri, of Washington, Pa.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Gordon B. Greenlee and his son in law, Nicholas Bracco.

Friends will be received Thursday from 6 to 9 PM and Friday from 2 to 9 PM, in the Greenlee Funeral Home, 619 Main Street, Bentleyville. Friends are asked to gather at the St. Katharine Drexel Parish Bentleyville Campus 126 Church St. Bentleyville, PA 15314 at 12 noon Saturday, January 13, 2018 for a Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Edward L. Yuhas, Administrator, Pastor Barbara Bailey and Rev. Andy Scott officiating. Interment will follow in the Beallsville Cemetery. Military Rites will be accorded graveside by American Legion Post #165 Bentleyville, Hancock-McCune –Horne American Legion Post #705 Centerville and Hanson-Cole American Legion Post #391 Fredericktown. Beallsville F. & A.M. Lodge #237 will conduct services Friday at 7:30 PM in the funeral home followed by a Lions Club Service at 8 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bentleyville Community Center Building Fund, 931 Main Street, Bentleyville, Pa. 15314 or the Bentleyville United Methodist Church, P.O.
